A Father's Leap: Finding Purpose Through Parenthood – By Joshua Blair
I never imagined I would be closely involved with children, especially in a professional manner. God, my children, and Birth to Five Illinois dramatically changed my path.
My wife and I moved from Indiana and found the perfect location to settle down. I was at the time working a job at UNIFI. The quick pace and rough conditions eventually caused an injury. This hit me like a ton of bricks; I quickly discovered I wasn't Superman. Yet, I also discovered that I had a talent for forming connections with little ones by caring for my two children. After a tough decision and a few lengthy conversations, I decided it was time to take a leap and help children with development.
Everything seemed to fall into place after that. My studies not only helped my career but also enhanced my experience as a father. Our children started receiving respect, clear communication, and resources for success. I'd encourage all parents to attend virtual classes because the old saying is true: they don't write a manual for these things. So, it feels like we, as parents, have to write the manual for our child's name here. The classes won't provide the whole picture but serve as a tool in our utility belt.
I can't thank the members of Birth to Five Illinois enough for their hard work and dedication. It feels good to see a network of support provided to an area that desperately needs it. I originally grew up in the Danville area, so I hope this movement inspires more professionals to invest themselves in the area.
