Positive Pediatric Experience - By Kristina and Nester
My son was born premature at 4lbs 6oz through an emergency C-section, which then required a transfer for both of us to a hospital outside our area. He required a proper NICU [Neonatal Intensive Care Unit], and I needed adequate care as well. Even though we aren’t from Peoria, where we went to the hospital, we were able to stay at “Family House” after we were unable to get into the “Ronald McDonald House”. “Family House” was very convenient and offered space for laundry, a kitchen, and our room. Since our NICU experience, we have had good luck with a local pediatrician. Although our area didn’t have a hospital to help with the complications following delivery, I am grateful our regular doctor visits are much closer to home.
We are lucky enough to have resources like “Under His Wings” that provide things like clothes, diapers, and more. They have been very helpful for our family, and I am always sure to return the clothes borrowed or donate other clothes I have back to them. This way, I feel like I’m giving back to our community and to the people who have helped us.
