New Grandfamily Support Group Coming to the Senior Resource Center
Freeport, IL — The Senior Resource Center, in partnership with Birth to Five Illinois: Region 8, is introducing a new program to support grandparents, relatives, and kinship caregivers who are raising children. The Grandfamily Support Group will meet every third Thursday of the month beginning Thursday, November 20, from 10:00–11:00 a.m. at the Senior Resource Center, 206 E. Stephenson Street, Freeport.
Are you a grandparent, relative, or kinship caregiver raising a child? You are not alone. This welcoming group offers an opportunity to connect with others who understand the unique joys and challenges of raising children in today’s world.
Participants will find:
A supportive space to share experiences and encouragement
Information about community resources and programs
Guest speakers on topics such as parenting, legal issues, and self-care
Friendship, laughter, and understanding
“The number of grandparents and relatives raising children continues to grow, and these caregivers often face unique challenges,” said Amanda Faivre, Executive Director of the Senior Resource Center. “This group will give them a place to connect, learn, and feel supported.”
Birth to Five Illinois: Region 8 is partnering with the Senior Resource Center to help ensure that caregivers have access to the resources they need. “We’re excited to support this important initiative,” said Lou Ann Hayes, Regional Council Manager for Birth to Five Illinois: Region 8. “Grandfamilies play a vital role in our communities, and we want to make sure they have the tools and encouragement they deserve.”
The program is free and open to all grandparents, relatives, or friends raising children in the area.
