Stronger Together – By Anonymous

A family of five smiling and laughing at the camera. A quote from the story is at the bottom. The Illinois map with a Region highlighted in blue is to the right.

Growing up, I didn't have a lot going for me. I lived in a broken home. I watched as my mother struggled to make ends meet. I was in a lot of abusive situations that still haunt me mentally to this day. As I grew older and older, I learned that I can overcome most of my emotions. When I started having children of my own, I promised myself I would not be like my parents. I would try harder to support my children in being successful in life. I homeschool my children to the best of my ability. When that became a challenge, I sought help. I have a child that has an intellectual disability and so for her to be educated is a challenge. I am always searching.

I love children. We wanted a big family. My health would not allow me. So, we became foster parents. At first it was scary. We fell in love with every single child that came into our home. Fostering can be a challenge. Some of these kids have been through more than I can imagine. We just adopted one child permanently. We have also witnessed them being reunited with their families. I never liked the thought of a child being separated from their siblings. But having this child is a blessing.
