The Needs of Vermilion County - By Diamond Moss

My greatest challenge with the Early Childhood Education and Care services in my area has been finding affordable child care; the fee for care is overly expensive. When my child was in care, I was paying $600.00 a month but then they raised the fees, and I couldn’t afford it. I applied for child care assistance and I was told I make “too much” money and therefore don’t qualify. I am a single working parent of a five-year-old boy. My only solution has been to call a different family member or friend every day to get them to watch my child while I work because I don’t have child care.

We need affordable child care in Vermilion County for working parents and we need child care for parents who work after normal business hours and during school breaks.
