Children can start school at an earlier age in Chicago versus DeKalb, and there are major slot gaps for families needing care. Now I have to work overnight and a different schedule because I can't find care. My father (children's grandfather) had to watch my children so I could work when I was in a pinch finding care.

The recent changes in the district boundaries and the school my child goes to have been a big challenge. My daughter has an IEP [Individualized Education Plan]. She just got used to her surroundings and now everything has changed on her. There's nothing I can do about it.

Also, not having transportation (access to the buses to the schools) has been a challenge for me. Decisions are being made without the input of the community and how it will affect them.

I have gone to meetings at the district to advocate for my family and community. I am willing to join parent advocacy groups.
