Birth to Five Illinois believes in Local Early Childhood Collaborations

Birth to Five Illinois grants to Local Early Childhood Collaborations are funded by the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) and the Early Childhood Governance and Finance Project.
In Fiscal Year 2023 (FY23), Birth to Five Illinois issued $3.2 million in grants reaching 27 counties across the State. The organization granted $2,624,930 in Implementation Grants to 24 existing Local Early Childhood Collaborations and $575,070 in Planning Grants to nine groups seeking to establish new Early Childhood Collaborations.
In Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24), Birth to Five Illinois will issue an additional $3.1 million in grants reaching 20 counties to support both new and existing Local Early Childhood Collaborations. This year, eight Planning Grants were renewed for the work of newly formed Collaborations in Year Two and six new entities have been funded to form new Collaborations in parts of the State that do not currently have any. Additionally, 23 Implementation Grants were renewed and two additional Collaborations were awarded funding.
Among other things, grantees leverage these funds to solidify community partnerships, hire dedicated staff, and develop Coordinated Intake processes to ensure families are connected to the programs and services for which they are eligible. Through these grants, Birth to Five Illinois is encouraging a systems-level approach to improving Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) and increasing enrollment in ECEC programs and services.
